Software testing plays a vital role in software development process. Companies need a software tester of all skill levels to create perfect software according to client’s requirement. Companies’ emphasis on higher quality of product. Thus, Because of this tendency there are large number of opportunities in software testing field. Testers who can program and perform white box testing or automation testing are more in demand with a good pay.

Here are few positions in software testing industry which vary from company to company but the kind of work performed is same.

1. Software Test Technician: This is an initial level test position. It includes responsibilities like working with beta sites to reproduce bugs, setting hardware and software configurations, running simple test cases.
2. Software Tester or Software Test Engineer: This is next level where you have to write your own test cases and scripts, attend design and specification reviews. Here you have to write simple test automation and work with programmers, if you can perform white-box testing.
3. Software Test Tool smith: If you have knowledge about programming and love to do testing, then Tool smith is a good position for you. You have to create custom tools that you demand from your team’s programmer. You also have to evaluate the commercial and open-source test tools that your team uses.
4. Software Test Lead: You will be responsible for the testing a major portion of a software projects. You might have to plan test and track your team’s performance. Collecting metrics of your project and presenting to managers is another task for Software Test Lead.
5. Software Test Manager: A Team lead work with the project managers to set schedules, priorities and goals. Providing the required resources to the team members and overseeing the testing  projects or multiple projects are responsibilities for this position.
