Things to avoid in blogging
We all try to get more and more loyal readers every day. We try lots of hit and trial methods to increase traffic and write articles about tips and tricks to attract traffic but we generally forget that some of our habit might result in losing our loyal readers.
Here are some points to ignore while blogging:
1. Introduce yourself: Readers will visit your blog often if they know you as a person not as a blog. Publish a good About Me page, this will help your first visitors to know about your qualifications and the topics of your blog. This will help them to return again to blog and recognize you in social networking websites also.
2. Don’t make your blog a text book: Writing post more than 1000+ words is good when the post is useful. But try to write to the point articles, which are useful for readers but not boring. Sometimes lengthy posts are not useful and readers feel as if they are reading some boring text book.
3. Don’t be rude: This blogosphere is a community and you should be nice to other bloggers and readers. Never get rude to them and always try to give satisfactory answers to other’s query. If you won’t be good to others, community will kick you off.
4. Don’t force: Don’t force your readers or other bloggers to tweet your articles or post the article in their facebook account. Request them and if others like your post, they will surely post it. Don’t even force other bloggers for exchanging blog rolls and links, better to send them a polite Email regarding same.
5. Don’t put lots of advertisement: We all are here to earn as a blogger, but it never means that you should cover your whole blog with advertisements and banners, especially the pop-up advertisement really irritate the readers. Try to place you banners on proper location. May be this article will help you to know more about banner advertisement.

The first point you mentioned should be placed under ‘Things to remember while blogging’ not ‘Things to ignore while blogging’. And i totally agree with you on the words point. No point in writing extra long article unnecessarily.
I love second point that readers will get bored if the article is too lengthy. Just give the important points and readers will appreciate it.

No one has time to read lengthy articles, short articles with useful information are always preferred by readers.

When you force anyone, he/she will start ignoring your comments and tweets.
A lot of blogger have made the mistake you have stated here, especially the advertisement part. We have to remember to put into consideration the perception of our readers, not our own.
Right Walter, we start blogging for ourself but it never means that we never think about our readers.

It totally depends on individual. Few ads are ok but blog full of advertisement is really irritating.
Nice points. About Me page should be updated with recent data. try to provide as much info about yourself as you can. Let you readers know that you exisit.
About me page shows a real person behind the blog and readers feel to communicate easily.

gr8 compilation of list on things to avoid in blogging. I would like to add that in this blogosphere every one works hard to get in top of others. So to request someone to tweet or share your articles is not a thing to avoid.

Agree with you vivek , but requesting and forcing to tweet or post links is very different. You keep on mailing or sending offline msgs for RT is really irritating.
Yes, these points are very valuable, don’t be rude, about the 5 th point, at least avoid pop up ads.
