Search Engine Marketing Myths
Search engine marketing is very crucial task to handle. One mistake or decision can affect all your operations. Search engine marketing requires lots of time and patience. Some myths might affect career of search marketing professionals. Here are some myths which should be avoided:
- Search engines are fond of blogs: It’s not 100% myth because search engines do like blogs, but only those blogs which are unique, frequently updated and easy to access from root domain (i.e. properly structured). Search engines used to like blogs when it was introduced and since every minute a thousands of blog created, search engine had decreased its interest towards low quality blogs.
- Highest ranking on search engine is necessary: This is the basic myth, many of the search engine marketing professional thinks that their website should be on top in the search results. SEM professionals waste their time and efforts and many times money to get their website to the first page of search results. I believe that if they have invested their time, money and efforts in increasing traffic to their website, it would have been worth paying off.
- Once you are on top, you don’t need to work hard: Search engine marketing never have any fixed destination, it’s more like a path where you have to keep moving and improving. Once you get top of the search engine results, you work doesn’t end. You need to work smartly, so that your website can remain in top results. Search engine marketing professionals always have to fight for top results because their competitors are also working very smartly to get on top, if your competitors are on top, you will surely move down. Thus, search engine marketing is a process of moving and achieving goals forever.
- Most popular keywords are more expensive: This is another myth, I often come across that in pay per click campaign, most expensive keywords are the keywords which provide better returns. It’s not at all correct, because the keyword best for you might not be useful for other; it totally depends on individual’s need. For e.g.; For Coca cola , Keyword “ Cold drinks” might be most expensive , but when it comes for buyers, keyword “ coke” might be more expensive. Thus keywords totally depends on needs and thus decide accordingly.
- No need to change website: As I wrote earlier, Search engine marketing is an ongoing process because internet is evolving constantly. Once you have built your website with keywords phrases and quality content, you just can’t start marketing about your website and ignore to update your website frequently. Your website should keep on updating according to changing market. It’s not changing only your Meta tags, it’s about changing HTML title tags, heading, hyperlinks and so on. Your website has to be modified in order to make attract your visitors as well as search engines bots.
