How to Reorder Pages in a WordPress Blog

By default all the pages which you publish in a WordPress Blog are shown to you in an alphabetical order (ascending order) by default.

WordPress uses an attribute for every page that is named as “Order” , by default the “Order” attribute of every page is “0”, so it arranges all the pages alphabetically in ascending order. Now to override the default behavior the only thing you need to do is assign some value to the “Order” attribute.

Let me explain this with the help of an example:

You have 5 Pages “Page A”, “Page B”, “Page C” , “Page D” , “Page E”, by default they will be shown in the same order as listed above (ascending order). Now if you want to show to “Page C” before “Page A”, simply change the Order attribute of “Page C” to 0 (which is by default)  and , change all the other pages Order attribute to 1.

That’s it and your pages are reordered and will be shown in this order  “Page C“, “Page A”, “Page B”, “Page D” , “Page E”.

Disadvantage: The only disadvantage of doing it manually and not using a plugin is that if you have large number of pages, giving Order attribute values and maintaining it can be a nightmare.

Following are the simple steps show to change the Order Attribute Value:

1. Go To Dashboard > Pages > Edit as show below:Reordering Pages

2.  Click on Quick Edit and Change the Order As shown below and click on Update Page.
