How to get rid of Trans Fats

Trans fats are the common name given for unsaturated fat with trans isomer fatty acids. Trans fats may be monounsaturated or polyunsaturated but they are never saturated. They also contain partially hydrogenated oils which raise people’s cholesterol which act as a slow poison for our body as cholesterol causes lots of disease going forward.

It is manmade fat and usually used as preservative or making food tastier. Maximum amount of trans fat is available in pre packed food like cake, pastries, and biscuits. Many companies claim that their product is free from trans fats, but at times it might also contain some amount of trans fat in their product. Thus always cross check the availability of trans fat before purchasing any food.

There is no good effect of trans fats on our body except for the fact that they will taste great, they are various side effects of trans fats. Few of the disadvantages of trans fat are:

  1. They can clog the arteries which supplies blood to your heart.
  2. They can increase LDL Cholesterol.
  3. They can decrease HDL cholesterol.
  4. They can make our body less immune over chronic diseases like Heart stroke, high blood pressure, diabetics and many more diseases
  5. It contains high calories, thus making our body overweight and full of fats.
  6. It can even give a low quality and volume of breast milk for mother’s.
  7. It also leads to obesity.
  8. It can also cause prostate disease if taken in high amount.

Here are some tips to get rid of trans fats:

  1. Try to include fresh fruits in your meals and snacks instead of junk or fried food such as French fries, burgers, chicken wings etc.
  2. Try to use olive oil or any other unsaturated oil for cooking, it is better to avoid using margarine.
  3. Make a habit to purchase products having zero trans fat even if you see partial part of the product is containing trans fat, avoid purchasing it. Partially trans fat also contains trans fat of .5 grams or above.
  4. Meat always contain some amount of trans fat naturally and when you eat prepacked or frozen meat, companies use more trans fat to make it more tasty. Thus, try to avoid meat. You can opt for lean meat or poultry without skin and grill them instead of frying them.
  5. Many dietary supplements also contains Trans fats, thus before consuming you should check the contents of supplements.
  6. Whenever you go out for dinner or party, make sure that your food is trans fat free. Avoid eating deep fried food.
  7. Avoid using Bakery mix or bakery products like cake, muffins, cookies, icing. It contains maximum amount of trans fats which might be equal to 32 burgers.

Anything which is taken in access is bad for our body and same goes for trans fat, so avoid taking rich content trans fat foods, in that way you can save yourself and your family from diseases in the longer run.
