How to Add a Favicon in WordPress Blog ?
Well before detailing the steps how to add the Favicon, for those who don’t know what a Favicon means let me describe that first.
Favicon is acronym for “Favorites Icon”. It is used in favorite menu and on address bar. It makes the appearance of the website more attractive and customized. The best part of having Favicon is that your visitor can easily locate your website link in their favorite menu among other website links. Such as the favicon created for “ChoosyInfo.com” as shown below in the red square.

Either you can create your own Favicon or you can pay to professionals to make your Favicon. There are lots of service providers which can make a Favicon for your website. But I would suggest why to pay others for your website identity. If you can create your own website and to create a Favicon is not a rocket science. If you need any help, m there for you to help in creating your Favicon.
To create your own attractive Favicon, you need a window Icon editor or you can use few of the free Favicon’s createors on the internet. Follow these steps:
1. Create an image for your Favicon. It should be 16*16, around 16 colors is good. If you want you can even go for 256 colors. Save the file with .ico extension.
OR
1. You can go to Chami.com’s Favicon Tool page ,upload your image by clicking the “Browse” button and click “Generate Favicon”, After Chami’s tool completed the generation, you will be presented with the link to download you favicon. Click the download link and save the favicon on your computer.
Note: If you are not making your own image, just check it out that it is royalty free and not copyrighted , before using it.
2. Upload your .ico file. You can put your favicon image in root directory of your website or to a public_html folder.
3. You will need to edit the header.php of your WordPress blog. Depending on the theme you use, locate the header.php folder and edit the file by adding the following code:
<link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”favicon.ico”>
4. Save your header.php file.
5. Refresh your browser and you would able to see your Favicon.
Note : If you don’t see your Favicon then you can clear the cache and restart the browser, for me I was not able to see the Favicon until I restarted the Firefox browser.
6. You can change the image, just by changing the .ico image. I would suggest don’t change your image if possible, your website or organization logo should be one, it should not change with time. Take your time to decide favicon for your website and stuck to it.
